A VETERAN activist and a physicist are coming to Carlisle for a question-and-answer event aimed at those who wish to know more about the arguments against nuclear weapons.
Angie Zelter, veteran activist and founder member of Trident Ploughshares and the International Women’s Peace Service, and Dr Rowland Dye, the nuclear physicist, will talk on 'Why Anti-Nuclear Campaigning is Vital'.
Ms Zelter, a peace and environmental campaigner for over 40 years, said: "The Ukraine war has made it more obvious than ever that nuclear weapons do not prevent war. They just make it more dangerous.
"The bottom line with so-called 'deterrence' is the willingness to commit mass murder, an atrocity on a vast scale, a major war crime. It is not some common-sense insurance policy.
"Join us to reflect in the miniature the mass non-violent movement that is essential for reversing the fatal and destructive direction of humanity and for showing the path towards a good future.”
The discussion will be at The Friends Meeting House, Fisher Street Carlisle CA3 8RR from 7.30pm on Wednesday, June 8.
Admission free with refreshments.
